This Earth Day, we celebrate over a decade of environmental innovation, cultural stewardship, and sustainable luxury at The Brando ; the world’s first LEED Platinum* certified resort.
Nestled on the pristine atoll of Tetiaroa in French Polynesia, The Brando has been redefining what it means to travel responsibly since opening its doors in 2014.

From its revolutionary Sea Water Air Conditioning (SWAC) system that slashes energy use by 90%, to its organic gardens, solar-powered operations, and zero-waste initiatives, every detail of The Brando experience is designed with our planet in mind. But sustainability here goes far beyond infrastructure - it’s a philosophy that infuses every guest experience, encouraging deeper connection to nature and Polynesian culture.
The resort’s Ecostation, home to the Tetiaroa Society, serves as a living lab where researchers, conservationists, and guests alike collaborate to protect fragile ecosystems and native species, including over 300 identified female green sea turtles.

Meanwhile, the Blue Climate Initiative and Te Mana o Te Moana amplify this impact globally, tackling climate change, advancing marine science, and nurturing local education and awareness.
What began as Marlon Brando’s dream to honor and protect Tetiaroa has grown into a model for the future of travel. As The Brando celebrates its 11th anniversary in 2025, it continues to prove that luxury and sustainability not only coexist — they thrive together.
*LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the most widely used green building rating system. LEED Platinum is the highest level of LEED certification, signifying the pinnacle of sustainability in building design and construction.
